Varughese Breaks School Record as Cairn Competes at NCAA RegionalsPublished by
The Highlanders XC teams wrapped up their season at NCAA Regionals, finishing in 33rd place of the 51 teams present. Against the best of the best, Cairn ran one of their best races of the season with a couple excellent times. Joel Varughese, the CSAC's second overall finisher, ran an absolutely phenomenal time of 26:37.9 to finish in 57th place overall. Varughese has shown constant improvements in his two years as a Highlander, and shattering the prior Cairn school record by nearly a minute is a fitting way to end his stellar sophomore season. Greg Snow finished in second place for the Highlanders with a time of 28:15.4, yet another great race for the freshman. The Highlanders finishers were rounded out by Jon Snider (28:30.7), Trevor Hickey (29:42.0), Evan Carey (30:12.6), Stephen Basile (30:52.6), and Christopher Potts (31:55.3).
